UWM's program offers a distinctive approach by examining the rich histories, languages, cultures, and contemporary challenges across Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and the United States. Unlike most programs, we integrate the study of Latin American and U.S. Latinx communities rather than treating them as separate fields. Graduates pursue careers both locally and globally in healthcare, social services, education, nonprofit organizations, business, and government. Many are fluent in Spanish, Portuguese, or French, and students with advanced language skills can complete both a bachelor's degree and a master's in translation within five years. Additional certificate options (comparable to a minor) include Latinx Studies and Latin American and Caribbean Studies.
