Latin American Studies [LAS] explores one of the globe's most vibrant and fast-changing regions. Our program highlights the remarkable linguistic, ethnic, cultural, and racial variety across the Americas through immersive learning experiences.
Unlike other departments, LAS deliberately shifts focus away from U.S.-centric views of Latin America. You'll examine Latin American societies and traditions by analyzing both U.S. and Latin American sources side by side.
This cross-disciplinary approach lets you blend courses from diverse fields including Hispanic Studies, Sociology, Economics, Government, Art History, Music, History, and Religious Studies. Beyond understanding Latin America's past and present, you'll develop sharp analytical skills and engage thoughtfully with global issues.
We provide both major and minor options in Latin American Studies, with numerous courses available to non-majors. Our program maintains an active campus presence, welcoming all William & Mary community members (and visitors) to participate in our frequent events.
