The Japanese studies program equips students with comprehensive language training at every skill level, featuring opportunities for overseas study and professional internships. This curriculum additionally covers Japanese cultural studies, literature, cinema, and digital media through courses taught in both Japanese and English. Participants develop essential humanities research abilities, which alumni have successfully applied to Japan-focused careers in the U.S. and Japan after completing their degrees at UWM. Program graduates have leveraged their language mastery and cultural expertise in various sectors including commerce, public service, and academia, building careers throughout southeastern Wisconsin, nationwide, and in Japan.
