Exploring contemporary languages, literature, and cultural studies fosters understanding and enhances connections among individuals and countries in our interconnected world. Our modern languages department, one of the most extensive in the SUNY network, provides intimate class settings with professors who promote immersive language practice, along with numerous international study options.
Hone your linguistic abilities during weekly international coffee gatherings and in our welcoming department lounge. Enjoy foreign cinema screenings, guest talks, interactive debates, educational excursions, and celebrations like Hispanic Heritage Month. Consider studying abroad in destinations like Barcelona or Latin America, or join a Global Cities course that brings you to Madrid. The Curriculum and Instruction Department provides pathways to earn a Bachelor of Science degree and qualify for NYS initial teaching certification in various Childhood 1-6 subjects (The Arts, English, French, German, mathematics, science, social studies, Spanish, women's studies) or Adolescence 7-12 disciplines (biology, chemistry, earth sciences, English, French, German, mathematics, physics, social studies, Spanish), plus TESOL K-12 certification. All programs combine pedagogical training with subject-specific coursework. Students in Adolescence 7-12 and TESOL K-12 programs are advised to explore dual majors in their focus areas.
