French serves as an official language in numerous countries worldwide, such as France, Canada, Gabon, Haiti, Belgium, Senegal, Switzerland, and Cameroon, among others. Additionally, French functions as a cultural, business, and diplomatic lingua franca in many other nations. With over 300 million speakers, it ranks as the fifth most spoken language globally.
At UWM, studying French fosters a worldwide outlook and deeper appreciation for cultural diversity. A degree in French opens doors to diverse career paths across industries like business, technology, media, tourism, design, government, and the arts.
Throughout their French studies, students enhance their language proficiency while examining the rich cultures, artistic expressions, social structures, literary works, historical developments, and political landscapes of Francophone communities. Nearly all courses in the French program involve reading, writing, and discussions conducted exclusively in French.
