The Department of Animal and Dairy Sciences provides one of the nation's most extensive graduate programs in its field. Faculty expertise and research funding cover a wide spectrum of specialties, including both in vivo and in vitro investigations of biological mechanisms at their core, as well as bioinformatics and data analysis for understanding fundamental biology and creating farm management tools. These diverse research areas share a common goal: solving real-world challenges in animal agriculture.
Our graduate student body includes Wisconsin residents, out-of-state domestic students, and international scholars from various nations. This blend of backgrounds enriches research, teaching, outreach, and cross-cultural exchange. Alumni pursue careers in academia, veterinary/medical schools, food/feed industry research, government/international lab programs, corporate research, and scientific leadership roles across multiple sectors.
