The Department's program in sociological methodology and statistics is consistently ranked as one of the nation's most comprehensive and rigorous. Graduate students complete two mandatory statistics courses focusing on the general linear model, along with a methods course that explores causal inference, research design, sampling techniques, and measurement. Beyond these core requirements, students can choose from various specialized courses, including: event history data analysis, structural equation modeling, and discrete variable analysis. These options are further enhanced by additional sociology courses on methodological approaches, computing applications in sociological research, and numerous statistics and methods courses offered across other social science departments.
