The program's graduate students explore both classical and modern sociological theories through our mandatory Sociology 773 course, offered every spring. Specialized seminars delve into particular thinkers and methodologies, covering subjects like W.E.B. Du Bois's sociological contributions, Erving Goffman's theories, Pierre Bourdieu's sociological framework, and the intersection of Pragmatism with Sociology. Additional graduate courses, while not centered on individual theorists, maintain a robust theoretical foundation. Theoretical perspectives also shape much of the research shared during departmental brownbag sessions.
