The Doctor of Philosophy in School Psychology follows a scientist-scholar-practitioner framework for professional development. Candidates train for academic roles in higher education institutions, psychological positions in K-12 schools, and careers with organizations providing mental health services for children, adolescents, and families. The curriculum maintains full accreditation from the American Psychological Association and recognition by the National Association of School Psychologists.
This program prioritizes equity and justice throughout core school psychology practices, including psychological testing and diagnostic assessment, preventative measures and treatment approaches, consultation services and program development, as well as research methodologies. Coursework encompasses applied behavior analysis, cognitive-behavioral techniques, social learning principles, and ecological-behavioral systems perspectives. Practical training occurs through hands-on experience working with diverse student populations, including mainstream classrooms and specialized groups such as individuals with developmental challenges or unique educational requirements. Field placements and internships involve collaboration with families, student peer networks, and broader educational and community systems.
