The Developmental Psychology Area consists of faculty members and doctoral candidates investigating cognitive, social, and emotional development across different life stages. Our graduate program is built on the fundamental belief that developmental processes are essential for comprehending any psychological phenomenon. While students typically focus on a specific developmental phase and content area, they are also urged to examine broader patterns of change throughout the lifespan. To support this objective, students enroll in diverse graduate courses, with opportunities for advanced statistical training. Each student collaborates closely with a faculty advisor to establish a cohesive research agenda, preparing them for postdoctoral opportunities. The program prioritizes presenting findings at leading academic conferences and publishing in prestigious peer-reviewed journals. Prospective students should review faculty web pages (listed below) to identify research areas aligning with their interests, as this compatibility plays a key role in admissions. Additionally, students may pursue a specialization in Developmental Psychopathology (details below).
