Earning a PhD demands mastery of both fundamental and advanced graduate-level mathematics, plus the submission of a dissertation featuring substantial original research within a mathematical discipline. The mathematics research program encompasses a wide range of topics. Doctoral candidates may focus their specialization and dissertation work on any mathematical area, such as algebra, algebraic geometry, applied mathematics, combinatorics, computational mathematics, complex analysis, differential equations, differential geometry, dynamical systems, harmonic analysis, logic, mathematical biology, number theory, probability, or topology.
International applicants must have a degree comparable to a regionally accredited U.S. bachelor’s degree.
