The Ph.D. degree is awarded to individuals who exhibit exceptional scholarly achievement and the capacity for autonomous research and analytical work in Mathematics. By completing advanced coursework and intensive training, the doctoral program equips students to produce novel advancements in Mathematics while effectively communicating their findings. Our graduate students actively lead and participate in seminars and colloquia within their specialized fields. In their initial year, students typically focus on coursework and seminars designed to ready them for Qualifying Examinations. Presently, these two examinations assess comprehensive understanding of algebra and real analysis. Beginning Fall 2023, students will select 2 from 4 qualifying exam subjects: (i) algebra, (ii) real analysis, (iii) geometry and topology, (iv) applied mathematics.
Applicants from colleges and universities of recognized standing who hold a U.S. bachelor's degree or its equivalent are eligible to be considered for admission for graduate study. English Proficiency: TOEFL - Your minimum score must be 100 (internet based) OR 600 (paper based).
