The Language Sciences program at UWMadison serves as an interdisciplinary center hosting the Linguistics PhD program. Enrolled students obtain a master of arts degree while progressing toward their PhD, as there is no independent MA option available.
This Linguistics doctoral program emphasizes scholarly investigation into formal language theories (including comparative studies of syntax, phonology, and morphology) along with the preservation and revival of Native American languages. We provide rigorous theoretical training alongside access to varied experimental and cutting-edge research approaches.
International applicants must have a degree comparable to a regionally accredited U.S. bachelor’s degree.
