The Educational Linguistics Ph.D. curriculum centers on language education and instructional methodologies while examining language's function in learning environments. Our inquiries and priorities are deeply rooted in educational frameworks and real-world applications, both shaping and being shaped by cross-disciplinary theories and investigations from linguistics, anthropology, psychology, sociology, history, and related disciplines.
Admission to Penn GSE requires satisfactory completion of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited U.S. university or its equivalent prior to your matriculation into any program.
A strong command of the English language is necessary for successful study at Penn. Applicants whose families do not speak English at home, or applicants who have not attended a high school or secondary school where the primary language of instruction is English, are asked to take the TOEFL, the Test of English as a Foreign Language, administered by the Educational Testing Service. In the event the TOEFL is not readily accessible, Penn will accept results from the IELTS, the International English Language Testing System.
