The Business: Insurance Economics and Actuarial Analytics PhD program is provided through the Risk and Insurance Department within the School of Business. Our mission is to educate students in generating research that pushes the boundaries of insurance economics and actuarial analytics.

Our distinguished faculty are at the forefront of their disciplines. Focusing on four key areas—actuarial science, insurance, risk management, and decision-making under uncertainty—our specialized knowledge spans insurance regulation and financial oversight, corporate risk strategies, behavioral economics, predictive modeling and statistical techniques, as well as healthcare sector analytics and economics, alongside other domains.

Qualification Requirements

Admission consideration requires a four-year undergraduate degree or the equivalent, in any discipline, from an accredited institution. Work experience is not required. Applicants should have an undergraduate minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale. In addition to academic credentials, test scores, personal achievements, motivation, communication skills (written and oral) and recommendation letters are considered in the admission process at both the master's and doctoral levels.

A recommended minimum TOEFL score of 106 (New iBT) and 27 Speaking, obtained within two years of the intended starting term, is needed for admission consideration. The school also accepts IELTS scores with a recommended minimum score of 7.5.

A minimum undergraduate grade-point average (GPA) of 3.00 on the equivalent of the last 60 semester hours (approximately two years of work) or a master's degree with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 is required. Applicants from an international institution must demonstrate strong academic achievement comparable to a 3.00 for an undergraduate or master's degree.
