The Risk Management and Insurance specialization represents one of seven concentrations available within FSU's College of Business Ph.D. program. This track typically accepts one new student each fall semester, with completion generally requiring four to five years. Features faculty specializing in insurer operations, insurance market dynamics and regulation, catastrophic risk strategies, and risk economics. The curriculum combines core courses on risk/insurance principles with advanced training in mathematical economics and quantitative methodologies. Supports complementary studies in financial econometrics, real estate, and statistical analysis. The program structure involves two to three years of coursework leading to comprehensive examinations, followed by two years dedicated to original research, teaching experience, and dissertation completion.
A bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution, or a comparable degree from an international institution, with a minimum 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) grade point average (GPA) in all coursework attempted while registered as an upper-division undergraduate student working towards a bachelor's degree; or
Admission is competitive and focused on students with grade-point averages of 3.5 or higher and GMAT scores of at least 600 or GRE scores of at least 155 on each section of the revised GRE.
The College of Business requires a minimum TOEFL score of 600 on the paper-based test and 100 on the internet-based test, or a minimum of 7.0 on the IELTS exam, taken within the past two (2) years.
A minimum score of 25 for each section of the TOEFL is strongly recommended. In addition, international graduate applicants seeking teaching assistantships are required to pass a test of spoken English.
