The Department of Animal and Dairy Sciences provides one of the nation's most extensive graduate programs in this field. Faculty research spans a wide spectrum, from fundamental biological investigations using in vivo and in vitro methods to applying bioinformatics and data analysis for both basic biological research and creating dairy farm management tools. These diverse research areas share a common goal: solving real-world challenges in animal agriculture.
Our graduate student body includes both Wisconsin residents, out-of-state students, and international scholars from various nations. This mix fosters global perspectives that enrich research, teaching, outreach, and cross-cultural exchange. Alumni pursue careers in academia, veterinary/medical schools, food industry research, government and corporate laboratories, as well as scientific leadership roles across multiple sectors.
