Geographers explore the connections between people and their surroundings.
For those seeking expertise to tackle urgent environmental and social challenges like climate change, disaster response, demographic shifts, and global interconnectedness, geography could be an ideal discipline.
At UW-La Crosse's Geography Program, learners acquire hands-on experience with cutting-edge technology to address environmental challenges. They utilize industry-standard Geographic Information System (GIS) tools, unmanned aerial vehicles, and advanced field instruments. Collaborative efforts between students and faculty examine historical and current environmental and social patterns while formulating approaches for creating a more adaptable and eco-conscious tomorrow. The curriculum has brought participants into nearby neighborhoods and across continents - from analyzing pollution in regional marshlands to assessing glacial retreat effects in the Himalayan mountains.
