Environmental science explores the interconnected systems of nature—land, water, and air—and examines humanity's relationship with these elements. SIUE's environmental sciences program takes a multidisciplinary approach, broadening students' understanding of ecological challenges at local, regional, and worldwide levels. Through this curriculum, students develop specialized expertise to analyze environmental problems, their causes, consequences, and potential solutions.
The program offers students multiple chances to collaborate with professors on innovative, cross-disciplinary research projects spanning key areas like:
Ecological biology
Chemical processes
Toxic substances
Environmental tech
Policy development
Participants also acquire practical skills via community engagement, internships, and experiential learning initiatives.
