The Secondary Teacher Education Program (STEP) offers a rigorous one-year Master's in Teaching degree with certification options for secondary education in mathematics, sciences, social studies, English, or world languages. Our program equips graduates to empower and guide diverse middle and high school students through an educational justice framework.
STEP provides specialized mentorship and hands-on classroom experience. This group-based program commences in spring quarter and culminates with immersive student teaching during late winter, strategically timed with hiring periods. Many participants secure substitute teaching positions in spring or pursue supplementary certifications in ELL instruction and Computer Science Education.

The UW Graduate School requires a cumulative GPA of 3.0, or 3.0 for your most recent 90 graded quarter credits (60 semester credits). However, we review your application holistically.
