The University of Washington's School of Music provides diverse professional programs focused on both performance and academic research. With more than 500 music students enrolled, the school awards various degrees including Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Music, Master of Arts, Master of Music, Doctor of Musical Arts, and Doctor of Philosophy. Non-major students also engage in private lessons or join ensembles for personal enrichment. The curriculum reflects music's dual identity—as a creative art form that thrives through composition, performance, and teaching, and as an academic discipline involving theoretical analysis and historical research. Graduate students benefit from an immersive setting to deepen their expertise in either performance or scholarly pursuits.
