Every program mandates proficiency or study of a foreign language, with the core curriculum emphasizing social sciences and history. For those primarily focused on language or literature studies, the University's specialized language departments may better suit your needs (including Asian Languages and Literature, French and Italian Studies, Spanish and Portuguese Studies, Scandinavian Studies, Slavic Languages and Literature, Classics, Germanics, and Near Eastern Languages and Civilization). The Middle East Studies program delivers an interdisciplinary Master of Arts in International Studies (MAIS), combining coursework from the Jackson School of International Studies with other university departments.
