Every program mandates proficiency or coursework in a foreign language, with the core curriculum emphasizing social sciences and history. For those primarily focused on language or literature studies, the University's specialized language departments may better align with your academic goals (including Asian Languages and Literature, French and Italian Studies, Spanish and Portuguese Studies, Scandinavian Studies, Slavic Languages and Literature, Classics, Germanics, and Near Eastern Languages and Civilization). The University of Washington's Comparative Religion Program, part of the Jackson School of International Studies' interdisciplinary offerings, culminates in a Master of Arts in International Studies. Emerging from diverse cultural traditions explored in the Jackson School's area studies, this program maintains a distinctly global and cross-cultural perspective.
