Welcome to the University of Washington's History Graduate Program. We specialize in educating future historians who contribute to academic knowledge about history while also teaching and connecting with wider audiences. Currently, over 50 students are enrolled in our MA and PhD programs across diverse historical fields, benefiting from our faculty's extensive expertise. Our approach combines interdisciplinary and comparative historical methods, allowing students to collaborate with faculty both within our department and across other UW programs. Faculty and graduate students actively participate in digital history initiatives that enhance research, education, and public engagement with historical studies.

The Ancient History concentration explores the civilizations of ancient Greece, Rome, and the Near East during antiquity and late antiquity. This program is strengthened by excellent offerings in Classics, Philosophy, Art History, Near Eastern Studies, and Comparative Religion. History graduate students can supplement their studies with relevant courses from these departments. Thanks to a donor's contribution, we offer the Roseman Fellowship for incoming MA students.
