This six-year interdisciplinary doctoral program cultivates scholars and educators through three distinct phases: coursework, comprehensive exams with prospectus development, and dissertation research. Annually, the program welcomes approximately two PhD candidates. Established to foster advanced interdisciplinary medieval research, the Medieval Studies Program emphasizes linguistic proficiency and primary source analysis, equipping students with robust research capabilities across multiple disciplines. Our alumni include numerous prominent medieval scholars. Current faculty expertise spans medieval Mediterranean interfaith dynamics, Iberian history and culture, Silk Road cultural exchanges, Gothic and late medieval art, aesthetic philosophy, historical reading methodologies, and polyphonic music traditions. These represent just a sampling of our program's diverse strengths - prospective students should examine faculty and current graduate research to fully appreciate our academic breadth.
