The intersection of physics and life sciences represents a fast-growing field of study. Our curriculum centers on investigating the fundamental molecular elements that form biological systems. Modern experimental methods now enable precise measurement of numerous phenomena involving proteins, DNA, and lipids that were once beyond our reach. Specifically, our capacity to engineer and modify these crucial biological molecules is accelerating discoveries about their architecture, how form relates to purpose, and principles for creating new macromolecules. Advancing this knowledge requires combining experimental and theoretical perspectives. We prepare emerging researchers to bridge physics and biology through our program's varied research opportunities and collaborative environment that connects laboratories across disciplines. Our professors come from different specialties but share a quantitative, physics-based methodology for exploring biological challenges.
