Pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Scandinavian Area Studies equips students with a deeper global perspective by exploring the region's culture, politics, and history. The curriculum offers varied learning pathways, from intimate seminar courses to interdisciplinary study abroad experiences and robust connections with Scandinavian and Baltic communities near campus. Learners cultivate advanced language abilities, research expertise, and communication techniques within a supportive academic setting. Armed with insights from global pioneers in social welfare, commerce, and gender equality, alumni enter diverse fields including corporate and nonprofit sectors, legal professions, academia, and STEM industries worldwide.
Degree requirements include achieving intermediate-level fluency in a Scandinavian or Baltic language like Danish, Finnish, Norwegian, Swedish, Estonian, Latvian, or Lithuanian. Since introductory language courses typically begin in autumn, early enrollment is strongly recommended for these foundational classes.
Student must have a High School Qualification.
Due to limited testing availability from COVID-19, the UW will accept the Duolingo’s English Test for autumn 2021 applicants. A minimum score of 105 will be required for admission. The TOEFL iBT special home edition and the IELTS Indicator at home exam will also be accepted for 2021 international freshman applicants.
