Students pursuing the general concentration have flexibility to explore various aspects of Asia rather than specializing in one country or region. They can tailor their elective courses to achieve different objectives, such as gaining a comprehensive understanding of Asia or examining specific themes (like politics, social transformation, or economic growth) across multiple Asian societies. The program requires two years of Asian language study, with students free to choose any Asian language. Native speakers of an Asian language can meet this requirement by showing college-level proficiency equivalent to second-year studies. This open major can be declared at any time.
