The Asian and Asian American Studies (AAAS) program takes an interdisciplinary approach to explore both past and present experiences of Asian Pacific Americans. This academic program serves as a major option for the Associate Arts (AA) degree within the Ethnic Studies Department.
The AAAS curriculum features classes focused on Asia alongside courses examining Asian communities and Asian Americans across the Americas. These courses employ historical, sociological, psychological, and artistic viewpoints to offer comprehensive insights into this culturally rich region and its vibrant diaspora populations. AAAS provides foundational and overview courses that transfer to both CSU and UC systems, satisfying IGETC standards and fulfilling general education requirements for the AA degree.
