Human evolutionary biologists start with a fundamental concept: our present is shaped by our past, with humanity's remarkable diversity resulting from millions of years of evolutionary processes. Research reveals how humans evolved to survive and flourish in Paleolithic environments. However, modern societal shifts, lifestyle changes, and environmental transformations have accelerated beyond what evolution might have prepared us for.
Students selecting the HEB specialization will receive dedicated instruction in research ethics involving human subjects, along with proper and improper applications of evolutionary theory (starting with BIO A 101/348). Ethical standards form the cornerstone of quality scientific work, and by graduation, HEB students will develop strong skills in assessing and performing ethically sound research.
Numerous graduates from this program continue their education in health-focused areas including medicine, nursing, epidemiology, public health, and global health. The anthropological approach within a liberal arts framework is widely regarded as excellent preparation
