This interdisciplinary graduate program, supported by the University of Virginia's humanities, arts, and social sciences departments, equips students to bridge academic fields and cultural perspectives while employing varied approaches to examine Europe within a worldwide context. The M.A. program provides a cohesive curriculum with continent-wide relevance during an era when pan-European organizations, projects, and developments play pivotal roles in shaping Europe's and the planet's trajectory.
As conventional borders fade within Europe's interconnected commercial, cultural, and political landscape, there's growing demand for professionals whose expertise spans beyond single nations to encompass continental and worldwide perspectives that overcome traditional East-West and North-South divides. Developing this comprehensive understanding demands thorough engagement with historical contexts, linguistic competencies, cultural awareness, and evolving demographic, economic, political, and environmental factors that continuously redefine Europe's identity, principles, and aspirations.
