This interdisciplinary graduate program, supported by the University of Virginia's humanities, arts, and social sciences departments, equips students to bridge academic fields and cultural perspectives while employing varied approaches to examine Europe within a worldwide context. The writing sample should be a course paper or other essay that demonstrates the student's ability to frame a scholarly argument, discuss writings by others, and develop and support ideas with appropriate examples
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), for international students
Transcripts (from each postsecondary institution attended)
Letters of recommendation (minimum of two)
Application for Virginia In-State Educational Privileges (if applicable)

A minimum GPA of 3.2 in undergraduate coursework
A minimum TOEFL score (all international students must submit TOEFL scores in addition to GRE scores)

600 for the paper-based TOEFL, an IELTS score of 7.0 is also acceptable.
