The cognitive area faculty possess expertise across diverse domains: (1) research topics, (2) methodological approaches, and (3) practical applications. Their work spans memory studies (Chad Dodson, Nicole Long, Per Sederberg), computational modeling (Per Sederberg), neuroimaging data science (Jack Van Horn), social cognition and developmental epigenetics (Jamie Morris), aging cognition (Mariana Teles Santos Golino), and educational psychology (Dan Willingham). Research facilities employ cutting-edge technologies like virtual reality, eye tracking, and neuroimaging (EEG/fMRI). The area addresses real-world challenges including human-computer interaction, legal testimony, age-related cognitive changes, educational methods, and autism spectrum disorders. With strong foundations in both cognitive neuroscience and behavioral science, we prepare students for academic research careers or industry positions requiring cognitive psychology skills. Our customized programs allow students to specialize in mathematics, neuroscience, computer science, or linguistics while developing essential professional skills: teaching, public speaking, scientific writing, and grant writing. All students gain advanced data analysis capabilities, with many acquiring programming skills. During your studies, you'll serve as a teaching assistant for undergraduate courses (e.g., Introductory Psychology, Research Methods & Data Analysis, Perception, Cognition, Cognitive Neuroscience) while participating in our Teacher Training program. We maintain that teaching fundamental concepts provides the deepest mastery of subject matter.
