Qualification Requirements
Prospective graduate students apply to the chemical engineering graduate program online through the University of Virginia. Generally, graduate students are admitted and begin their studies during the fall semester. Admission to the department is highly competitive, and applications are thoroughly and carefully reviewed to identify tenacious and curious applicants with research interests and goals that align with department research activities and who have demonstrated excellence in prior academic, research, and leadership activities.
Applicants must have earned a undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution, or an equivalent degree from a non-U.S. institution.
Copy of most recent transcript or record of college level work completed and/or in progress at your home institution
Letter of recommendation from your academic advisor or a faculty member that can attest to your academic abilities and emotional maturity in terms of being prepared to undertake a demanding course of study in a foreign country.

GRE Scores: The Department of Chemical Engineering no longer receives or reviews GRE scores.
The minimum internet-based (iBT) TOEFL score requirement is 90 (including sectional minimums of 22 in speaking, 22 in writing, 23 in reading and 23 in listening). The minimum paper-based TOEFL score requirement is 600. Applicants may submit scores from the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) as an alternative to the TOEFL exam. The minimum IELTS score requirement is 7.0 in each section
