Occupational Safety utilizes engineering concepts and techniques to reduce physical risks in work environments. The Master of Science in Occupational Health (MSOH) program, specializing in Occupational Safety (OS), equips students to assess workplace dangers, develop and execute preventive measures aligned with government regulations, and ensure compliance. Those selecting this specialization collaborate with the Mechanical Engineering department while acquiring hands-on experience in Occupational and Environmental Health. The Rocky Mountain Center for Occupational and Environmental Health provides two specialized training pathways in Occupational Safety, both leading to graduate degrees but differing in training depth and curriculum. The first pathway is a Master of Science degree offered directly by the Mechanical Engineering department, while the second is through the Occupational and Environmental Health department. Both programs incorporate interdisciplinary elements combining engineering, workplace injury prevention, industrial hygiene, and occupational medicine. Students pursuing the MSOH with an Occupational Safety focus develop industry-specific expertise applicable across sectors such as construction, manufacturing, and mining.
