The Environmental and Sustainability Studies (ENVST) program is a STEM-based interdisciplinary field providing both a major with specialized tracks and a minor option. This curriculum examines ecosystems and human-environment relationships through lenses of natural sciences, social sciences, health sciences, and humanities. The University's initiative aims to cultivate comprehension of complex environmental challenges while promoting solutions via systems thinking, collaborative education, civic involvement, ethical leadership, and scientifically grounded approaches to integrated problem-solving.
Professional Pathways
ENVST studies equip students for diverse roles across sectors including public service (e.g., Bureau of Land Management positions or Watershed Science roles), corporate settings (as sustainability advisors or environmental strategists), education, agricultural management, urban development, nonprofit leadership (program coordination), and advocacy work (environmental policy lobbying). Alumni have pursued careers as legislative analysts, ecological consultants, plant scientists, renewable energy specialists, and environmental reporters. For advanced studies, graduates may pursue degrees in environmental sciences, business management, health policy, urban design, or environmental law.
