The department provides Master of Science degrees in both Applied Mathematics and Statistics. These two-year programs conclude with either a comprehensive exam or thesis, equipping graduates for further doctoral studies or careers in various academic and professional environments. The curriculum delivers thorough instruction in applied statistical methods while establishing a robust grounding in statistical principles.
Applied statistical competencies are cultivated via project-based coursework, statistical programming with an emphasis on S and SAS, and hands-on training through the department's statistical consulting service. This consulting opportunity allows students to directly assist with real-world statistical analyses from regional organizations, including the UToledo College of Medicine and UToledo Center for Applied Pharmacology, as well as local businesses.
Completion of the program necessitates 35 credit hours, covering essential topics such as statistical applications, inference techniques, linear models, multivariate analysis, computational statistics, non-parametric methods, categorical data interpretation, consulting practices, and survey methodology.
