Certain students join our program aiming to earn a Master of Science (MS) degree before pursuing employment. Those with a bachelor's degree who wish to ultimately obtain a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) typically fulfill the MS requirements first, as all core MS courses are mandatory for the PhD. Every MS candidate must satisfy identical core course requirements.
Earning the MS degree necessitates completing 34 credits, including a minimum of three advanced statistics courses (5000- or 6000-level) beyond the core curriculum. Alongside coursework, students must successfully pass a written examination. The second year of the MS program primarily focuses on elective courses chosen by the student in consultation with their faculty advisor. Before or after finishing their final semester, students undergo an oral examination covering their capstone project (the creative component), referred to as the Final Examination in the Graduate Catalog.
