This interdisciplinary program provides avenues for in-depth biological exploration and research, enabling students to expand their academic horizons at the graduate level.
The Biology Master of Science program features both thesis and non-thesis pathways to accommodate diverse graduate experiences. Customized study plans are developed based on each student's academic focus, in collaboration with their graduate advisor. Faculty research specialties span biochemistry, cell biology, developmental biology, genetics, microbiology, neuroscience, physiology, and botanical sciences.
The Integrative Biology Department grants Master of Science degrees in both Biology and Environmental Science. It also provides graduate certifications in Environmental Science and Environmental Sustainability. Additionally, the department collaborates with the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Construction Management to offer a joint Ph.D. in Environmental Science and Engineering.
The Microbiology and Immunology specialization is a thesis-based degree track that equips students for careers in healthcare, public health, education, research, and industry. This program also serves as preparation for those pursuing doctoral studies in Microbiology and Immunology at UTSA or other institutions.
