UTSA provides two options for earning a Physics degree: a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) or Bachelor of Science (B.S.). Students can also pursue a Minor in Physics and/or Astronomy. These programs feature a comprehensive selection of upper-level courses including Classical Mechanics, Statistical Thermodynamics, Electrodynamics, Quantum Mechanics, Mathematical Physics, Astrophysics, and Space Physics, along with specialized electives. While both degrees open doors to various career paths, the B.S. is particularly advised for those considering graduate studies in physics or related fields.
Internship opportunities enable students to gain practical experience, test potential career directions, and enhance their employability. Through Handshake, UTSA's career platform, students can browse job postings, internship openings, and recruitment events. The university's Career Center includes a dedicated College of Sciences career advisor who assists students from all science disciplines with internship placements and professional guidance.
The Physics B.A. program is designed for students who want a solid physics background as part of a liberal arts education, without necessarily pursuing a career as a physicist. This flexible degree allows for substantial exploration of other academic areas. Additionally, the B.A. offers a specialized track for 6-12th Grade Physical Science Teacher Certification, equipping graduates for careers in secondary education.
