The Department of Meteorology and Atmospheric Science provides a combined B.S./M.S. (IUG) Program, enabling high-achieving students to earn both degrees in Meteorology within five years. Prospective students must apply to both the Graduate School and the IUG Program by their junior year's conclusion. For the initial three years, participants follow the standard B.S. curriculum, typically choosing either the Atmospheric Sciences or General track (refer to the Undergraduate Bulletin). Early enrollment in advanced courses is recommended for those planning to join the IUG Program. Applications to the Meteorology Department's IUG program (502 Walker Building) and Graduate School should be submitted by junior year's end, with acceptance decisions announced before senior year begins. Selection prioritizes research potential. In their fourth year, IUG students focus on their chosen B.S. Meteorology specialization while incorporating 500-level coursework and initiating their M.S. thesis or research paper. The fifth year is dedicated to completing M.S. degree requirements and finalizing the thesis. Sample schedules for the General and Atmospheric Sciences tracks are provided below. Following these plans allows students to fulfill all B.S. requirements by year four. Should a student need to withdraw from the integrated program, they can still obtain their undergraduate degree upon meeting B.S. requirements. Undergraduate tuition rates apply throughout undergraduate status unless graduate tuition is required for assistantship funding.
