At UTSA, students can pursue an English degree with specialized tracks in Professional Writing, Creative Writing, or English Language Arts and Reading. These concentrations are selected after admission through consultation with an academic advisor. The curriculum includes diverse liberal arts and humanities subjects spanning American/British literature, linguistics, rhetoric, writing, ethnic studies, gender studies, and beyond. This English degree opens doors to careers in writing, editing, teaching, public relations, or provides a foundation for graduate studies.
UTSA prioritizes student achievement through hands-on learning that bridges classroom theory with practical application. As part of the College of Liberal & Fine Arts (COLFA), students gain global career readiness through experiential learning, reflection, and engagement. The COLFA Student Success Center supports academic and professional growth with tutoring, internship connections, networking opportunities, and career development programs.
Exceptional English majors may qualify for Department Honors through intensive coursework and personalized faculty guidance within their major studies. T
