Economics examines how individuals, businesses, and governments allocate resources to fulfill societal demands. UTSA provides two distinct Economics degree options: the B.B.A. or B.A. Each program builds a solid economic foundation, with the B.A. emphasizing qualitative analysis while the B.B.A. incorporates business training for professional career preparation. Through these programs, students develop skills in efficient resource management, understanding incentive-driven behavior, and addressing modern challenges faced by enterprises, institutions, and government entities.
The Economics Department at The University of Texas at San Antonio aims to deliver undergraduate and graduate programs that equip students with essential theoretical and quantitative economic knowledge. This enables them to apply economic principles in daily life, pursue advanced studies, enter global business careers, and contribute to policy development. Additionally, the Department fosters a research environment where faculty and students can advance economic understanding while elevating the reputation of the Department, Carlos Alvarez College of Business, and University.
Students can pursue either a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Business Administration in Economics. This adaptable major prepares graduates for diverse career paths in commerce, government, law, and political sectors where economic expertise proves invaluable. The department also provides an economics minor available to all University students regardless of their primary field of study.
