The Early Childhood Education program equips students to instruct children from preschool to second grade.
All Boston University undergraduates, including incoming freshmen and transfer students, will complete coursework in the BU Hub—the University's integrated general education curriculum woven throughout the undergraduate journey. Hub requirements can be fulfilled through various avenues, including major-related courses, electives, and cocurricular engagements. Early Childhood Education majors typically satisfy BU Hub requirements in Diversity, Civic Engagement, Global Citizenship, Communication, and key Intellectual Toolkit components through Wheelock College of Education & Human Development coursework—essential foundations for future educators collaborating with colleagues and families. Arts and Sciences coursework may address additional requirements, so students should consider Hub objectives when choosing these classes. Remaining Hub competencies can be met through diverse elective courses or approved cocurricular activities.
Early Childhood Education students at BU undertake a rigorous curriculum blending arts and sciences foundations—spanning humanities, social sciences, mathematics, and sciences—with specialized education coursework focused on early childhood development.
