The Sustainable Community Health Promotion in Social Work Certificate equips students to apply sustainability principles when examining social factors and policies that influence community and individual health outcomes. Through a sustainability lens, participants will develop strategies and policies to enhance economic, ecological, and social welfare for current populations while safeguarding future generations' health.
Graduates of this program will gain the following competencies:
Define health comprehensively, encompassing social, economic, and environmental determinants of well-being for individuals, families, and communities.
Explain how environmental justice contributes to health outcomes across diverse populations.
Evaluate unequal environmental health burdens faced by marginalized groups, including economically disadvantaged individuals, racial minorities, and persons with disabilities.
Incorporate sustainability principles into social policy analysis and health promotion strategies.
Champion sustainable food systems and urban green spaces to support physical and psychological health.
Design community health initiatives using sustainability frameworks to address local health concerns.
Partner with healthcare professionals to promote preventive health measures accessible to all age groups and ability levels.
This program offers an online option, though students must choose either online or in-person coursework and cannot combine both formats.
