The Face to Face MSW program equips students for careers in clinical or macro social work. Classes are mainly held in person at the University of Houston's main campus, offering access to two specialized practice areas, four concentration options, and four dual degree opportunities. This full-time program primarily operates during daytime hours and cannot be completed solely through evening classes. Both Advanced Standing and traditional program tracks are available in the Face to Face format.
Clinical Practice involves utilizing theoretical frameworks, techniques, professional skills, ethical principles, and values to improve psychological, emotional, behavioral, physical, and social functioning across individuals, couples, families, groups, and communities. This practice demands leadership in advancing social, economic, and political equity. Its approaches prioritize relationship-building, cultural awareness, contextual understanding, and strengths-based perspectives. Clinical practitioners employ knowledge of biopsychosocial functioning and evidence-based methods, encompassing (but not restricted to) evaluation and treatment planning, diagnostic processes, therapeutic interventions, preventive education, client advocacy, counseling services, psychotherapy, professional supervision, and consultation.
