Doctoral candidates concentrate on pioneering research that questions or enhances existing theories and understanding in ecological and evolutionary sciences, with potential societal impact. Graduates will complete the program having undertaken significant, varied research at UTEP's local facilities like the Indio Mountains Research Station, as well as international sites spanning from African rainforests to Arctic tundra. The EEB PhD program cultivates an educational setting in ecological and evolutionary biology for aspiring researchers and community leaders, emphasizing studies that critically examine and potentially advance current scientific paradigms while maintaining societal relevance. EEB faculty conduct investigations across all scales - from molecular to planetary levels - in both land and water ecosystems, locally and globally. Our work primarily centers on two critical domains: Biodiversity Studies and Global Change Ecology.
