The Department of Fisheries and Wildlife provides both thesis and non-thesis Master of Science (M.S.) options along with a Doctoral (Ph.D.) program. Recognized as a premier institution, the department prepares fishery and wildlife experts for roles in research, management, education, extension services, and consulting. Master's alumni secure positions with diverse employers including government agencies at all levels, private companies, cultural institutions, tribal groups, and environmental firms.
Doctoral graduates frequently join university faculties or excel in non-academic careers. Currently, around 100 graduate students participate in the program, most receiving financial support through assistantships. Student research covers broad topics in limnology, fisheries, wildlife studies, and human interactions, utilizing advanced computing resources, an exceptional library, research stations, and Michigan's rich natural environment. Students also engage in global initiatives, sharing findings with audiences across local, national, and international platforms.
