The Mechanical Engineering PhD program educates students in fundamental advanced concepts while providing research opportunities to address challenges in energy, healthcare, security, and transportation. A minimum of 75 semester credit hours beyond a bachelor's degree is required for the Mechanical Engineering PhD.

Program alumni pursue roles including: University Professor, Corporate or National Lab Research Scientist, R&D Engineer specializing in component and system design for energy, healthcare, security, and transportation sectors, as well as Consulting Engineer positions in both public and private organizations.
Degree requirements: A master's or bachelor's degree in engineering or one of the natural sciences from an institution of higher education in the U.S. or from a comparable institution abroad.
GPA: A grade point average (GPA) of 3.3 or better on a 4.0 point scale.
