The Computer Engineering PhD program delivers rigorous training in design, programming, theoretical foundations, and practical applications. It caters to both academically focused students and professionals seeking advanced expertise in computing theory and technology for careers in business, industry, or government.
The curriculum spans numerous computer engineering specializations, such as: operating systems, computer architecture, graphics, pattern recognition, AI, machine learning, embedded systems, networking, software systems, algorithm analysis, parallel computing, VLSI design, computational geometry, automation tools, cybersecurity, information protection, and data analytics.
Campus computing resources include an extensive array of systems - from PCs and Unix workstations to specialized research machines across departmental labs. The Jonsson School features cutting-edge technological infrastructure, with comprehensive wireless coverage throughout all buildings and a high-capacity fiber-optic Ethernet network.
Degree requirements: A master's degree in Computer Engineering or a closely associated discipline such as Electrical Engineering or Computer Science from an institution of higher education in the U.S. or from an acceptable foreign university. Consideration will be given to highly qualified students wishing to pursue the doctorate without satisfying all of the requirements for a master's degree.
GPA: GPA (grade point average) in graduate level coursework of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 point scale.
