American studies is an interdisciplinary field examining America's historical and contemporary landscape. Those enrolled in an American Studies program utilize diverse university courses to investigate, assess, and understand American culture and social structures. Both the major and minor in American Studies provide adaptable curricula, allowing students to tailor their education to personal interests and professional aspirations. Working with the program director, American studies majors create two specialized interdisciplinary concentrations where they complete most upper-level coursework. While these concentrations must maintain historical awareness, students enjoy significant freedom to craft personalized academic paths within these guidelines.
